I’m Taylor Maycan, an audio producer and editor currently based at USA TODAY. Welcome to my site!
Let's get acquainted, shall we?
I produce several weekly podcasts at USA TODAY from soups to nuts, There's The Mothership, a roundtable about all things newsy and nerdy in entertainment. And then there's Cup of Politics, which examines the Beltway’s biggest story of the week through the lens of the journalists who covered it.
You can also find me working on our daily news brief podcast, called 5 Things You Need to Know, or working on special projects, such as Re-entry, a multimedia exploration into America's recidivism problem.
My priors include Dad Rock, a podcast hosted by — you guessed it — two music-obsessed dads who hadn't lost their love for rock n’ roll, and its sister show, Tuesdays With Mary.
Before making the move to podcasts, I was the senior editor and lead multimedia and social media editor for USA TODAY College, a national news source for college students, produced predominantly by student journalists. Among the things I miss most about it: the opportunity to mentor scores of rising stars in journalism and teach them how to research, pitch, report and tell timely, important stories through the best-suited medium
Last but certainly not least, you can occasionally find me writing for The Short List, USA TODAY’s nightly newsletter that rounds up the day’s top stories. It’s short, it’s list-y and it’s chock full of personality.
I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism with online news and social media concentrations from the Medill School of Journalism, Media and Integrated Marketing Communications at Northwestern University and a second degree in surviving Chicago winters (pro tip: eating lots of pizza helps).
Now I want to hear about you! Don't be a stranger. You can reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org or on Twitter here.
